AS OF JANUARY 2006 MANY CHANGES ARE IN EFFECT WITH THE WASHINGTON DEPT OF RADIATION PROTECTION. FEES AND FINES ARE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER, SO BE SURE TO CONTACT US PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. Many of your questions can be answered regarding registration and the rules and regulations of Washington by visiting the State of Washington DOH website. Similar rules apply in many States, but you should check with your own State Radiation Protection department for specific information that applies to your situation. In the future, we hope to add links to Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Hawaii. Often I can answer your shielding questions via email or a simple phone call. Presently, the State of Washington is very slow in plan reviews taking up to 30 days to respond to a submitted plan. During this time, it is typical that construction proceeds. Start early on a Shielding Plan so that if there are any changes mandated by the State, you still have contractors on site to make such changes. I have complained to the State Department of Radiation Protection and they are attempting to speed up the process, but at the present time, things are very slow.
